On June 16 [Monday] the Centre for Labour and Social Studies (Class), will host the world-renowned economist Thomas Piketty in conversation with top political advisor to Ed Miliband, Lord Stewart Wood.

For the first time, Thomas Piketty will discuss the findings of his bestselling much-debated book Capital in the Twenty-First Century in parliament, in front of an audience of academics and leading thinkers on the centre left.

In light of the approaching General Election, Piketty's arguments around the political economy could not be more important. How to tackle growing inequality and halt the slide in living standards will be key battlegrounds on which the next election is won or lost. As a result, Piketty’s ideas will be integral to the shaping of manifestos.

Lord Stewart Wood said: "I'm delighted Mr Piketty will be joining me in parliament to discuss the important themes he outlines in his bestselling book Capital in the Twenty-First Century. He has helped put the challenge of addressing inequality at the centre of political debate."

Thomas Piketty said: “It is a pleasure to be able to discuss the findings of my book with a key figure in the Labour Party. Without political action, inequality might grow to dangerous levels.”

Event date: 16 June 2014
Event time: 12.00pm – 1.30pm

This event is fully booked.
