The State of British Workers 2019 - Event & Report Launch
Every month we are told that the labour market is blossoming - that employment is up and the economy is creating jobs. The reality is far different: exploitation, insecurity and low-pay work has become commonplace, equality groups still face serious discrimination and work-related stress has ballooned. Where are these trends heading, how is Brexit affecting them and what can we do to make work less hostile to workers?
Join CLASS director Dr Faiza Shaheen, Jon Trickett MP, Diana Holland OBE, Assistant General Secretary of Unite the Union, Sam Tarry, the National Political Officer at the TSSA, Paul Nowak, deputy general secretary of the TUC, and Ros Wynne-Jones (Daily Mirror) at the launch of CLASS’s 2019 annual report, Labour Market Realities.
This report challenges the narrative of record employment in the UK to highlight the multitude of pressures facing those in the economy on a day-to-day basis. Given the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Brexit negotiations, this year’s report will touch on how Brexit related uncertainty is perceived and has impacted the labour market.
